Calculate the chance before you spin.
For positive weights, an option's chance is its weight divided by the sum of all weights. Multiply by 100 to express it as a percentage.
Chance = option weight ÷ total weight × 100%
| Option | Weight | Chance per spin |
|---|---|---|
| Tacos | 4 | 50% |
| Pasta | 2 | 25% |
| Rice bowl | 1 | 12.5% |
| Soup | 1 | 12.5% |
If all four weights were 1, each meal would have a 25% chance. In this sample, tacos have a 50% chance, pasta 25%, and each other meal 12.5%.
Relative weights keep the same proportions.
The sets 4, 2, 1, 1 and 8, 4, 2, 2 describe the same chances. Multiplying every weight by the same positive number leaves the proportions unchanged.
Start with small positive values that are easy to explain. To exclude an option, remove it from the active list instead of assuming a zero weight will hide it.
Use weighting when you want a preference, plus variety.
A dinner favorite can have a larger share while other meals remain possible. For chores, a quick task can have a higher chance when every listed task is ready to do.
Use equal weights if everyone expects an equal chance. Explain any weighting to the group first. A wheel doesn't assess urgency, effort, nutritional value, or fairness for you.
Make a weighted wheel in Wheelora.
- Create a wheel and enter your own options.
- Set a positive weight for each option. Keep equal values unless you want different chances.
- Check that a larger share matches your intended preference.
- Spin, then save the wheel for reuse. You can edit the options and weights later.
AI can suggest options and weights, but your choices determine the final list. You can use weighting entirely without AI.
A few spins won't match the percentages exactly.
A 50% chance can produce repeated wins or several misses. The percentages describe the probability of each spin, not a promise that tacos appear exactly five times in ten spins.
Wheelora's spinner uses secure random sampling to select a landing angle and an animation to show the result. Segment sizes reflect the weights. This is a random picker for everyday choices, not a certification for regulated draws or gambling.
Frequently asked questions
What is a weighted spin wheel?
A weighted spin wheel gives options different chances. An option's probability equals its positive weight divided by the total weight. Equal weights give equal chances.
Does a higher weight guarantee that option?
No. Weight 4 versus weight 1 makes an option four times as likely as that other option on a single spin. It does not guarantee a win or a fixed pattern across a few spins.
Does weight 4 mean 4%?
No. Weights are relative values. If the weights are 4, 2, 1, and 1, the total is 8, so weight 4 means a 4/8 or 50% chance.
